Rachel Fillhart is a Music and Health Apprentice for 2015-2016 with practice based at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, QMC, Nottingham.
Clarinettist Rachel Fillhart moved from her native Canada to the U.K. to study at the Royal Academy of Music and later, the Royal Northern College of Music.
She moved to Portugal on being awarded the position of the assistant principal clarinettist with the Orchestra of the Algarve where she lived for three years, giving concerts across Europe.
She is now based in Manchester and has a busy freelance career, performing with orchestras throughout the U.K. including the Ulster Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Her interest in music and health began to develop whilst working with her trio, Manchester Reed Trio. Together they trained for a week with ‘Musique & Santé’ in Paris, and now work regularly for the charity ‘Music in Hospitals’, performing in care homes, hospices, hospitals and schools across England and Wales.
Rachel also works as the clarinet tutor at several independent schools in the Manchester area.
“I am very pleased to have been selected as an apprentice and am looking forward to working with Opus’s team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience working directly in wards with such talented musicians, and will be of great value to my future practice.”
