Music and Health

OPUS Music CIC is a leading provider of music in healthcare settings. OPUS musicians engage patients, visitors and staff in music-making, creating open spaces for cultural exchange within a clinical environment. Patients benefit from a humanised environment, a distraction and relief from illness and pain, and an enjoyable, musical interaction.

OPUS musicians are trained by Musique & Sante (Paris, France), internationally renowned experts in music and health practice. OPUS musician Nick Cutts is also trained by Musique & Sante as a trainer of musicians and healthcare staff to deliver this practice.

OPUS currently work with children, visitors and staff at Derbyshire, Leicester, Nottingham and Kings Mill (Mansfield) Children’s Hospital in partnership with Youth Music and local funders/supporters to provide musical interactions on a weekly basis. Alongside this practice, OPUS also offers paid apprenticeships in Music and Health practice and a series of international Music and Health Symposia.

OPUS also work alongside Zest Arts and Health to make music with patients, visitors and staff at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, and have also completed residencies at Nottinghamshire Hospice as well as a number of Derbyshire elderly care homes.

  1. Hi,
I thought that you might be interested in my work around using music as a tool to engage ‘hard to reach’ excluded groups around health and other social topics.

I live in the North East and have a public health background not a music one. If we could work together in anyway however, that would be great.

If you get the time, feedback is also welcome.

    Cheers
